What we treat

  • Long-standing back pain in manual workers
  • Headaches with a neck origin
  • Arthritic knee and hip pain
  • Deep muscular tension from heavy work
  • Problems that have stopped responding to hands-on treatment

What we use it for

Almost always as an enabler rather than a treatment in itself. The typical case is someone whose back or knee hurts enough that they cannot do the strengthening work that would actually fix it. Settle the pain, and the rehabilitation becomes possible.

That framing matters, because acupuncture sold as a standalone cure tends to mean an indefinite series of appointments. We assess first, and if the problem is mechanical and fixable with loading, we will say so.

A session

Short consultation, then treatment lying down with needles left in place for around twenty minutes. Most people find it deeply relaxing; a fair number fall asleep. Afterwards you may feel loose and slightly tired, passing by the next day.

Cupping

Available in the same appointment, using suction to decompress soft tissue. It suits broad areas of tightness: upper backs and shoulders especially, which is most of what heavy manual work produces. It leaves circular marks for a few days, which are neither bruises nor painful.

Common questions

Is this the same as what a herbalist offers?

No. This is needling done by a trained practitioner after a physical assessment, with single-use sterile needles, as part of a treatment plan. We are happy to explain exactly what we think it will and will not do for your particular problem.

Will it hurt?

Far less than people expect. The needles are much finer than the ones used for injections and most people feel a brief prick at most. A dull heaviness around the needle is normal.

How will I know if it is working?

Three to five sessions is enough to tell. If nothing has changed by then we stop and reconsider rather than continue selling you appointments.
