Sports Injuries

Achilles, knees, hamstrings and ankles, rehabilitated to the demands of your sport rather than to being pain-free on the sofa.

Common symptoms

  • , Pain during or after training
  • , Swelling following activity
  • , Reduced speed or power
  • , A joint that feels unstable
  • , Pain that returns each time you resume training

Common causes

  • , Training load increased too quickly
  • , Insufficient strength for the demands
  • , Previous injury never fully rehabilitated
  • , Hard or uneven training surfaces
  • , Inadequate recovery between sessions

A serious running region

The Rift Valley produces distance runners at a rate nowhere else matches, and Nakuru sits in the middle of it. That gives us an unusually high proportion of endurance injuries: Achilles tendinopathy, patellofemoral knee pain, hamstring strains, shin splints.

It also gives us a lot of athletes who have been managing an injury quietly for weeks because stopping felt like falling behind.

Load is nearly always the answer

For overuse injuries the cause is almost always a change in load rather than a single traumatic event. More mileage, harder sessions, a new surface, worn shoes, or a block without easy weeks.

Finding what changed in the fortnight before symptoms started is often most of the diagnosis.

Finish the rehabilitation

The commonest reason the same injury returns is stopping when the pain goes. Pain settles well before tissue strength recovers, and that gap is where reinjury happens.

We finish against measurable criteria: hop tests, side-to-side strength comparison, and a graded return to full training planned with you rather than guessed at.

How we treat it

  • , Accurate diagnosis of the injured structure
  • , Progressive loading appropriate to the tissue
  • , Sport-specific strength and power work
  • , Graded return-to-training programme
  • , Training load planning around your season

Typical recovery: 2–12 weeks depending on tissue; longer for ligament surgery

See a doctor urgently if you have

  • !Inability to bear weight after injury
  • !Obvious deformity
  • !Rapid marked swelling within an hour
  • !Numbness below the injury
  • !A loud pop with immediate instability

These are not physiotherapy problems. Go to a doctor or hospital rather than booking with us.

Treatments that help

Common questions

Everyone here trains hard. Why did I break down and they did not?

Usually load history rather than talent. The athletes who stay healthy have built up over years and take their easy days genuinely easy. Injury tends to follow a change: more volume, harder sessions, a new surface, or a comeback that skipped the rebuild.

Should I ice it?

Ice helps pain in the first day or two. It does not speed healing and prolonged icing may slightly hinder it. Useful for comfort early, not a treatment in itself.

Can I keep training?

Almost always in modified form. Complete rest weakens the tissue you need to load again. Tell us your race or season plan and we will build the rehabilitation around it.
