A running town
Nakuru sits in the Rift Valley at around 1,850 metres, in a region that produces more serious distance runners than almost anywhere on earth. That shapes the caseload heavily towards the classic endurance injuries: Achilles tendinopathy, patellofemoral knee pain, hamstring strains, shin splints.
Almost all of it is load rather than damage. A mileage jump, a new surface, a training block with no easy weeks, or a return to running after a lay-off that was too aggressive.
Altitude and recovery
The most common mistake we see in athletes arriving from lower altitude is treating their usual paces as achievable here. They are not, at first. The same effort costs more, recovery is slower, and the easy days need to be genuinely easy.
Athletes who ignore that accumulate fatigue and present four to six weeks later with an Achilles or a calf that has been quietly complaining for a fortnight.
Return to training, not just pain-free
Being pain-free at rest is a low bar and the commonest point of reinjury. We rehabilitate until the tissue tolerates what your training actually demands: measured with hop tests, side-to-side strength comparison and a graded return we plan with you.

Common questions
I am training seriously. Will you tell me to stop?
Rarely, and only if the tissue genuinely cannot take load. Complete rest weakens exactly what you need to strengthen. Usually we modify volume, surface and intensity rather than stopping you, and we plan around your race calendar if you tell us what it is.
Does training at altitude change anything?
It changes recovery more than injury risk. At Nakuru's altitude the same session costs you more, so athletes coming up from lower ground routinely underestimate how much easy running they need, and that shortfall shows up as Achilles and calf problems within a few weeks.
How long until I am back?
Depends on the tissue. We give a realistic range after assessment rather than the number you want to hear, and we finish rehabilitation against measurable criteria rather than a feeling.
